It takes only one look at the lovely seashore which adjoins the city of Haifa to appreciate what the Torah scholar Rabbi Ishtori Haparchi suggested might be the source for its name. Hof Yafeh is Hebrew for "beautiful coast" and Haifa may well be a combination of those two words.
